Zinc Die Casting Electrical Applications

Zinc die casting has many advantages in electrical applications. The zinc alloys are stronger and tougher than many molded plastics or other metal alloys used in die casting. Zinc also has outstanding electromagnetic shielding and vibrational dampening characteristics, which are both desirable when protecting internal electrical components. One of zinc’s desired characteristics is its ability to be cast into thinner walls and more complex shapes.

Deco Products produces zinc die cast electrical components. Featured in the video below is a modular power supply and extension cord that Deco Products produces zinc die cast components for. Deco produces the zinc die cast part pictured to the left. It is the outlet component of a home or office use extension cord. This part was considered into the extension cord design with quality, durability, and visual appeal in mind. Zinc die cast designs used for heat extraction involves a combination of high thermal conductivity and thin wall processing. These thin walled designs are popular for use as heat sinks in the electronics industry to remove excess heat from the central power or processing source. By using a thin wall design, surface area is increased, and heat is dispersed onto that extra surface area.
